Why can’t we work happily today?
As described by this question, in modern society most people may be working while embracing the vague feelings of anxiety or emptiness. If so, what should we do for working happily? Atsushi Amano, the author of this book, gives us the clear, unique answer to this question, based on his experiences as a management consultant and a certified public accountant in half his life.
He advocates that it is the most important thing for us to make ourselves happy through working. Working happily will lead to making people around us happy. which will finally make everyone in the world happy. As symbolized by his vision “to create the company which makes everyone happy” and his real action to realize that, the true purpose of corporate management is to make everyone happy. And then, as a result of that, our business will be necessarily successful.
Amano says that it is very easy to make ourselves and other people around us happy. To do that, all we need to do is simply to transform our consciousness and evolve it. As we raise our consciousness from the level of the ego to the level of the cosmos, our way of thinking and working will dramatically change. To put it concretely, for example, our way of working changes from the “scrambling” business to the “sharing” one, which makes every involved person happy.
He also tells us that the essence of us is “love” and “light,” and we can and should manifest our essence while working. In other words, we can and should work happily with love and light to make everyone happy. This means to be in harmony with the cosmos. The cosmos is full of the creative energy of love to bring about harmony. We can work guided by the cosmos, and supported by that cosmic energy. So we can also believe the guidance of the cosmos and leave issues beyond our wisdom to the cosmos. In doing so, we can embrace our destiny guided by the cosmos, and live out it filled with happiness. Working in harmony with the cosmos―that is the spiritual way of business advocated in this book.
Throughout this book, Amano explains the methods for working in harmony with the cosmos in a plain, careful manner. In short, for example, he teaches us how to:
・Extend our three axes (the axis of time, the axis of space, and the axis of feelings) through some exercises or meditation. (Chapter 2)
・Let go of things, including negative emotions such as anger and sadness, obsessions, regrets for the past and anxiety about the future, expectations for others, value judgments between right and wrong, perfectionism and even goals. (Chapter 3)
・Recover our connection with everything around us through “grounding” and “centering” meditation. (Chapter 5)
As a result of practicing these methods, we can reach the important realizations as follows:
・The three steps (realizing, forgiving, and appreciating) are very important for letting go of negative things.
・The three laws (the law of cause and effect, the laws of ying and yang, and the law of harmony) make us realize the importance of recovery of our connection.
・In the coming age, we should put emphasis on not only tangible things such as money and possessions, but also intangible things such as pleasure, happiness and gratitude.
All the discussions about how to work in harmony with the cosmos described throughout this book are persuasive and easy to practice, for they are based on the real experiences of the author. Practicing those methods and thus realizing the true important things similar to the corporate managers and business leaders introduced in this book, you readers can also show good business performances and work happily while making others around you happy. That represents the evidence you are working in harmony with the cosmos. And then, finally you will be able to fulfill your destiny guided by the cosmos.
